Creative Scrapbookers should not ignore acid free paper

You might be tempted to use the normal plain paper that you can buy at a very cheap price in your stationery store and when you compare the price tag to the scrapbooking paper, you found this specialized paper is more expensive. Well, scrapbooking paper is normally acid and lignin free so that explains the higher price tag. If you are creative scrapbooker and want your scrapbooking projects to last long then you should not ignore the acid free paper.

This type of paper is intended for the best preservation of your photos and memorabilia so don’t skimp on this.

What does acid free means to you?

If the paper is acid free it will be typically be neutral in pH or at most, between 6 and 7 (which is the neutral pH).

Where does the acid comes from?

The scrapbooking paper is made of wood pulp that contains natural acids. During production, calcium is added to neutralize the acid during the treatment process.
The paper may also be buffered to keep additional acids from forming.

Since we want our creative scrapbooks to last long, it makes sense to use acid free scrapbooking paper in our project. Manufacturers will normally have an ‘acid free’ label on the packaging to differentiate this special paper with regular paper. If you use acid free paper, you’ll also notice that they will not yellow and deteriorate easily as regular paper. This type of paper will not damage your photos too, so try to consider them in your scrapbooking budget.
