Scrapbooking Color Scheme – How do I Select Color For Scrapbook Pages

Choosing a color scheme for my scrapbook pages is not something that I’m good at.

I’m always on the lookout for tips and ideas on choosing the suitable color themes that will make my pages stand out. Whenever  I find interesting tips, I normally blog about it. My main intention is to share what I found and also for own own reference in the future. You’ll find several posts about color schemes that I wrote previously in the related post below.

When I was browsing the internet for some color ideas for my other websites t0day, I found this useful site called color scheme designer. Basically, it gives preview of the color when you choose different schemes. I found it very useful so I thought you might be interested as well.

There is a color wheels for mono, complement, triad, tetrad, anologic and accented anologic that you can play around on the site. I’m not quite sure what most of them mean but by playing with the wheel you can see how the color changes. There’s also option for warm and cold hues, which gives you ideas of what color is considered ‘warm’ and ‘cold’ respectively. If you can’t remember -  red, orange and yellow are considered warm color and green, blue and violet are grouped under cold colors.

You can also adjust the color wheel to see the effect of the color combination.

In my opinion, this color wheel is not only useful if you’re building sites or doing some color works but can be used for ideas for the scrapbooking projects too. You can play with the color combination to see the one that is pleasing to the eyes without the need to invest in anything upfront. Once you’re comfortable with your color combo, then you can snap a photo of it or print it for your shopping list later.

Check out Color Scheme Designer at this link and start playing with the color wheel for your scrapbooking color scheme ideas :)

Easy and Simple Ways to Enhance Your Scrapbook Design

Is there easy ways to enhance your scrapbook?

And are you looking for scrapbooking ideas to improve your scrapbook design?

If you just started doing creative scrapbooking then like many others, you might be looking for ways to spice up your scrapbook pages. This is completely normal so don’t feel bad about it. You’ll soon realize that there are many easy ways for you to enhance your scrapbook.

1. Themed Background Sheets

A scrapbook will need a page background and this will be your first step in deciding how you want to design your scrapbook. If you just starting out, you might be inclined to choose sheets of papers with solid colors. Though this can be considered fail-proof solution, it might not help you in making your scrapbook pages stand out from the rest. Due to this, I’m recommending you try themed background.

Themed background sheet or more commonly referred to as print background come in different formats. You can easily buy them from your craft shops and can also be ordered online. There many designs available so you should be able to find your matching background quite easily. For example, if you are working on birthday theme scrapbook, then you can easily find pages designed with birthday cake and candles

2. Stickers

Scrapbook and photographs cannot be separated. Having said that, many new scrapbookers only associate scrapbooking with photographs. So, they’ll normally stuff many photos on their scrapbook pages. In principal, photos play an important role in scrapbooking, but don’t make a mistake in thinking that they are the only component of the scrapbook.
Use stickers to add fashion, flair, and professionalism to your scrapbook.

Nowadays, you can buy the traditional flat stickers at a very affordable price. Not only that, you can also buy 3D foam stickers. Stickers are not only for kids. There are many type of sticker designs available and I personally prefer the 3D type because they tend to jump off the page and creating that cool effect.

3. Die Cuts

You are forgiven if you associate die cuts with stickers. At first glance, die cuts does look like stickers. In fact, they may be. Some die cut shapes are sold with adhesive backing.

A die cut has the ‘real life look’ to it, making it a great enhancement for a scrapbook. For example, a die cut of a baby shoes will look more like a real baby shoes than a sticker of one. Die cuts are very popular among scrapbookers so be sure to check it out

4. Using Photograph Borders

Did you just glue your photos on your background sheet? Well…it’s okay but why not try using photographs borders. If you use it properly, you can easily make your photos stand out making it look like a picture frame.

If you are on budget, you can easily make your own borders. Get yourself a piece of cardstock and cut it slightly bigger than the photos. Then you can cut out the inside to create the frame like border.

Using themed background pages, stickers, photograph borders, are just a few of the many ways that you can do to enhance your scrapbook pages.

You are not limited to these ideas alone as you can even buy premade scrapbooking sketches and layout to get you started. If you are interested in learning more about the sketches, why not check out this 500 Sketches Collection by Jennifer?. She has many sketches and layout collections suitable  for one, two and even 6 photos. Her work can help you get started easily and will give you ideas and overview on how your entire scrapbook project will look like. Check Out 500 Sketches Collection..

Creative Baby Scrapbooking Checklist

Creative Baby Scrapbooking – A Checklist For You

You are addicted to creative scrapbooking and want to attempt baby scrapbooking project. But you do not know where to start. I faced this same problem when my aunts ask me to help scrapbook her newborn baby.

Here are the steps that I took before I attempted this project:

1) Gather all the photos that I want to use and sort them out

I was having problems with the photos as everything were mixed up and they were not even in the albums. Some of the photos were slightly damaged but I still have to use it because we do not have copies of those. I guess my aunts were so busy with her baby that she didn’t take care of the photos :(

2) Choose the theme

Well, my aunts doesn’t have anything specifics in her mind. She just want something that focus on her baby.

I can do themes based on baby welcoming, baby showers, meal or bath. The problems is, I don’t have enough photos to create a specific theme like this. In the end, I just did a very general scrapbook… highlighting the baby and his parent and mixing some chronological theme in between

3) Draft the layout for the theme and choose the color scheme

I used a mixture of layouts – nothing special. But I paid attention to the color scheme to make sure that the scrapbook flows nicely. I chose blue color scheme because the scrapbook is for a baby boy.

I had layout highlighting the baby with only one photo at the centre stage and some writing on the sides. This is to introduce the baby itself. For the baby meal, i chose three photos of the baby and arranging them like a pyramid. The big one is on the top and two smaller ones at the bottom. These are just some of the layouts that I use.

I saw some nice looking template page on the net for the baby theme, unfortunately I couldn’t get them from the craft shops here. So, I had to do it manually .. i know, it is really time consuming, luckily it was only 15 pages.. phews….

4) I prepare all the materials that I need

Some scrapbooking papers, ribbons to bind the pages, protective sleeves, adhesive, craft scissors, stickers, some gold and silver markers and glitters

5) Then I start my first ever baby scrapbook

It took me about two weeks to complete it because I was busy with my work at that time and only had weekends to do it.

It wasn’t something that’s super duper artsy but my aunts was very happy and couldn’t stops looking at it. Wow.. I feel so happy for her :)

I thought I’d share this cute photos of his small feet.. I really like it.. isn’t it cute?
