Creative Scrapbookers should not ignore acid free paper

You might be tempted to use the normal plain paper that you can buy at a very cheap price in your stationery store and when you compare the price tag to the scrapbooking paper, you found this specialized paper is more expensive. Well, scrapbooking paper is normally acid and lignin free so that explains the higher price tag. If you are creative scrapbooker and want your scrapbooking projects to last long then you should not ignore the acid free paper.

This type of paper is intended for the best preservation of your photos and memorabilia so don’t skimp on this.

What does acid free means to you?

If the paper is acid free it will be typically be neutral in pH or at most, between 6 and 7 (which is the neutral pH).

Where does the acid comes from?

The scrapbooking paper is made of wood pulp that contains natural acids. During production, calcium is added to neutralize the acid during the treatment process.
The paper may also be buffered to keep additional acids from forming.

Since we want our creative scrapbooks to last long, it makes sense to use acid free scrapbooking paper in our project. Manufacturers will normally have an ‘acid free’ label on the packaging to differentiate this special paper with regular paper. If you use acid free paper, you’ll also notice that they will not yellow and deteriorate easily as regular paper. This type of paper will not damage your photos too, so try to consider them in your scrapbooking budget.

Be creative and use brads in your scrapbooking project

I am a scrapbooking noob and have no ideas what a brad was until I went online to check it out. I heard a lot of people saying that we should include brad as part of our scrapbooking embellishment kits but have no ideas how it looks like.

What is brads?

Brads are fasteners that scrappers normally use to decorate their pages. They are available in many shapes and colors and some creative scrapbookers even use them as embellishments.

How can you use brads?

It is quite easy to use. First, a hole need to be made on your scrapbook page. Then you can slot the pointy tips of brad into the hole and spread them so that they don’t come out. Sorry,I’m not sure what the correct term to use to describe it but I guess you get the point.

What types of brads can you buy from the scrapbook or craft stores?

There are many types of brads available and just buy the type that suit what you’re scrapping about. There are shiny and matte finish brads available for you to choose from. You’ll be spoil for choice as brads come in many shapes and colors. Some stores sells heart and baby brads that are cool to use in baby or family theme page. There are even balloons, star and jelly beans brads. I like these for party themes scrapbook.

Themed and Seasons Brads are Cool Too!

Depending on seasons, you can get halloweens, christmas and valentines themes brads at reasonable price. These types are useful if you plan to have themed scrapbooks as they can really add to the moods and feelings of the pages.

Does brads expensive?

Well, it depends on the types of brads that you choose. Quality, size and designs can affect the price too.You can even get acid free brad which might cost slightly more than the normal type. A detailed butterfly shape brads with some imitations diamonds on it will definitely cost more than a normal looking butterfly designs. Buy something that suit your budget and needs. It will be a waste if you don’t use it so plan your purchase in advance.

Brads can be a really useful add on to your embellishment kits. Having said that you should also combine it with other elements to accentuate your design. After all, a creative scrapbooker can always turn a lame design to a diamonds  :)   Don’t you think so?
