Scrapbooking Color Scheme – How do I Select Color For Scrapbook Pages

Choosing a color scheme for my scrapbook pages is not something that I’m good at.

I’m always on the lookout for tips and ideas on choosing the suitable color themes that will make my pages stand out. Whenever  I find interesting tips, I normally blog about it. My main intention is to share what I found and also for own own reference in the future. You’ll find several posts about color schemes that I wrote previously in the related post below.

When I was browsing the internet for some color ideas for my other websites t0day, I found this useful site called color scheme designer. Basically, it gives preview of the color when you choose different schemes. I found it very useful so I thought you might be interested as well.

There is a color wheels for mono, complement, triad, tetrad, anologic and accented anologic that you can play around on the site. I’m not quite sure what most of them mean but by playing with the wheel you can see how the color changes. There’s also option for warm and cold hues, which gives you ideas of what color is considered ‘warm’ and ‘cold’ respectively. If you can’t remember -  red, orange and yellow are considered warm color and green, blue and violet are grouped under cold colors.

You can also adjust the color wheel to see the effect of the color combination.

In my opinion, this color wheel is not only useful if you’re building sites or doing some color works but can be used for ideas for the scrapbooking projects too. You can play with the color combination to see the one that is pleasing to the eyes without the need to invest in anything upfront. Once you’re comfortable with your color combo, then you can snap a photo of it or print it for your shopping list later.

Check out Color Scheme Designer at this link and start playing with the color wheel for your scrapbooking color scheme ideas :)

Scrappers nightmare – struggling with the right color combination!

It is the aim of scrappers to present their scrapbooking works in such a way that enhance and improve the photos on the layout that they choose. One thing that they should pay attention is the color and it is not a myth that scrapbookers sometimes struggle when they try to find the right color combination.

Why color is so important in your scrapbook project?

Color can set the mood and has power to evoke the emotion and bring out the essence of what you are trying to potray in your scrapbook. Color can be made to harmonize and blend with the rest of the scrapbook items.

Are you struggling to find the suitable color combination?

It is no doubt that color is influenced by personal taste but a little help from color wheel will not do you any harm. Use it as a guide when choosing your color combination. It provides you a basic for different intensity, hue and ‘harmony’.

You can use contrasting harmony blend or even use two analogous or ’similar’ colors if that appeals to you. Always remember that different color has different energy and vibes and you can create different mood and scene by picking up the right combination.

Speaking of which, I found this great scrapbooking website and they are giving away some freebies. One thing that really strike me is how beautiful they combine the color and make the place where you want to put the photo really stand out. I really like the “Cluster – You are beautiful”. Why not check out their site here.

Anyway,I hope you find some inspiration from their work and happy scrapbooking - say NO to scrapbook color combination nightmare :)

Creative Scrapbooking and Theme Color Made Simple

If you love creative scrapbooking, you might sometimes find yourself stuck when trying to choose the right color for your scrapbooking theme.

Here are two simple tips that you can try to get started with your theme color.

1. Picking the most dominant color

Look at your photographs and try to pick up the most dominant color. For example, in my photo below,  green covers most of the photo. So I might use green as my theme color.

Having said that, you might want to see if the rest of the photos that you want to use have lots of this dominant color also. Ask yourself what is the overall result that you want, do you want softer or darker shade? What color can you combine together?

2. Using color wheel

Color wheel is a good tool to help you see the relationship between one color to the other. From there you can see the primary, secondary and the tertiary hues which I beleive are very useful in helping a scrapbooker with the theme color.

Hardware shops that sell paints sometimes give free paint guide/wheel if you buy paints from them. Though you’ll not find all of these colors available for the scrapbooking paper, it will give you some ideas on the color clusters. It can also give you some feels for the color combinations so that you are not totally at lost when shopping for scrapbooking papers.

Before you go shopping for your scrapbooking supplies, try putting the sample color next to your photos. Seeing it on the table is different than imagining it in your head, so you might want to do this to get clearer ideas of how it will look like. Do you like the colors? How do they make you feel?

If you are happy with you choice, then jot it down in your notebook so that you don’t forget it. This information will be useful for your when you go shopping for your scrapbooking materials.

How will you use this information to the fullest?
